Ice cream machine

Every year before my husbands birthday or Christmas I feel a light panic coming. I will have to find my husband a present! You would think it’s no big deal, but since Chris made a sport of finding me the most perfect gift at every occasion, I do feel a bit of pressure. It’s not about how fancy the gift is because I know he doesn’t care about that, it’s about it being a thoughtful present that is right for him.

He is also the type of person that just buys the thing he would like to have when he really wants it, what makes it an extra challenge for me. One time before Christmas I luckily heard him saying he wanted traditional Mexican tortilla press. I ordered it immediately and felt a big relieve for about 48 hours, but when my package arrived, there were two. Chris ordered the exact same one for himself without mentioning it to me…

I gave up on being as good in finding presents as he is, that will never happen. I’ve learned to start early and try to find something he’d like that he may not see right away.

One time for his birthday I decided to give him an ice cream machine. I must admit, panic played a role in this decision. When Chris opened it I saw him in his mind already carrying it to the attic. I think the first time he made ice cream was just to be polite and to convince me he didn’t totally hate his present. Luckily the ice cream machine exceeded every expectation! It also helps that Chris is an excellent chef ;). It didn’t take long to make the best ice cream flavours that could would with the best ice cream shops in Amsterdam. It turned out to be one of the best presents I gave him. Maybe we are enjoying this present even more then Chris himself.

When buying an ice cream machine it’s good to look for one that’s self cooling. It makes all the difference in us actually using it. You won’t believe how easy it is to make your own ice cream!

We have the Boretti B101 in red. Another great option is the Domo D09066I because of its great price/quality. The Boretti looks great on your counter but Chris says the Domo is a bit better machine and a lot cheaper. The most important part is that the machine has it’s own cooling element inside. The machines that need to be frozen first or add ice cubes are too cumbersome and won’t ever leave your storage once used for the first time.

Now we normally have 10-12 variations in the freezer at any given time. We all have a wide variation of tastes ranging from very earthy flavours like chocolate, peanut butter or mokka to very fruity flavours like raspberry or strawberry. We even have some that love the sour of passion fruit. My go-to is always the very rich and creamy dark chocolate and Chris’ recreating of B&J Chunky Monkey in Banana, chocolate and walnut. Soon I will share our favourite Ice cream recipes.
